We’ve developed a novel method for nonlinear optical excitation, using forbidden transitions to triplet states. We demonstrated the concept in dyes and imaged cells expressing fluorescent proteins.

We’re building a new type of multiphoton microscope that benefits from reduced power, size, and simpler, lower cost components. Reducing power requirements while maintaining nonlinear excitation could enable new approaches to study dynamic processes across large volumes at high throughputs.
